Suicide Prevention Resource Guide

Crisis Intervention is the 24-hour emergency mental health service provided by the Dauphin County Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities Program. Crisis Intervention staff provide supportive counseling, outreach, assessment, and referral information to individuals experiencing an emotional crisis or difficulty coping with a personal problem.

 
Crisis staff works to provide an immediate response to people experiencing a mental health emergency by:
 
  • De-escalating and supporting an individual or family in a crisis
  • Serve as a liaison to police, emergency departments, mental health facilities, and providers
  • Provide risk assessments and psychosocial assessment
  • Provide brief follow-up and support to individuals and families after a crisis
  • Provide information and referrals to individuals and families
  • Identify alternatives to hospitalization when possible and facilitate voluntary or involuntary hospitalization when appropriate
  • .Provide mental health disaster responses to the community, including first responder.s
  • Provide consultation and mental health training to community agencie.s
 
Crisis Intervention provides telephone, walk-in, and mobile services, all available 24 hours a day through the Crisis Intervention Office.
 
Telephone Crisis or hotline services consist of telephone counseling, consultation, and referral for individuals who exhibit an acute problem of mood or thought disturbance, or emotional distress that may include behavior or social relationships.
 

Walk-in Crisis services are face-to-face contact with individuals in crisis or with individuals seeking help for persons in crisis. Services include assessment, information and referral, crisis counseling, crisis resolution, and access to community resources.

Mobile Crisis services are individually and team-delivered crisis intervention services provided at a community site where the crisis occurs or a place where a person in crisis is located, such as the person's home or school. Mobile Crisis services include assessment, counseling, crisis resolution, referral, and follow-up.
